Official Website of Freedom Farm Post 58
Dear George Hilgard American Legion Post 58 Member:
Upon advice of our attorney, it is necessary that the Post update it's by-laws in order to maintain our federal tax exempt status as a veterans' organization. To amend our by-laws, the post must provide notice prior to the vote. This letter is notice of the post intent to hold a vote to amend by-laws.
The attorney has recommended that we add the following language to our by-laws:
“In the event of dissolution of this organization, assets of the organization shall be distributed to one or more exempt purposes within the meaning of the Internal Revenue Code, or shall be distributed to the federal, state, or local government for a public purpose”
By vote of the membership present at the June 9, 2026 meeting, a motion to so amend the by-laws will be presented for vote of the membership at the July 14, 2026 meeting; To be held at VFW Post 1739 300 N. Charles St. Belleville, IL 62220
Please plan to attend the meeting to cast your vote and let your thoughts be heard. It is critical that we have a quorum present to adopt the motion and maintain our federal tax-exempt status.
Should you have any questions please contact any member of the executive committee or Post Commander Bill Enyart at 618-235-8300.
